BSI joins European Fire and Security Group

Press release - 12 December 2011

Member acceptance of BSI test results reduces testing and certification lead times

The British Standards Institution (BSI) has been granted membership to the European Fire and Security Group (EFSG) which means manufacturers within the fire and security sectors can now gain product certifications which are internationally recognised from a sole provider.

This new membership will save BSI clients time and money by reducing the need for duplicate testing, as BSI’s test reports for fire alarm system standards (EN 54) will now be recognised by other EFSG members.

EFSG is a group of certification bodies which aims to establish a common approach to product certification in the fire and security sectors including commercial fire products such as smoke and heat detectors, control panels and power supplies.

“BSI recognises that the volume of standards and products in the fire detection field is increasing,” said Gary Fenton, Global Director of Assurance at BSI. “By gaining EFSG membership BSI will now be able help manufacturers of fire detection products achieve product certification more cost effectively than before by reducing costly multiple testing activity and assessments. They will also be able to bring their products more quickly to market as a result of internationally recognised test results.”

The announcement is expected to enhance BSI’s already strong profile and competency in the fire detection field as well as further promote the company’s vision to offer a range of global testing and certification services under one roof.
